INTERMEDIATE - FASHION DESIGN
Step by step through a series of theoretical and practical lessons, students will explore how the Italian fashion system works. The attention will be focused on the historical development and remarkable success of the “made in Italy” phenomena. At the same time students will have the opportunity to practice and to enhance their fashion skills.
Analysis of the future trends in Fashion also through visits to important fashion studios and or production centres.

Introduction to the Fashion System
Study of the essential features which influence trends: culture and lifestyle factors, unique Italian artisan skills, production district specializations and the extraordinary creative and technological potential of fabrics.

Collection, design concept
Presentation and discussion on the collection design project: target, briefing and timing, fabric selection, and typology of production. Project methodology, original research, concept development and application of that vision to all aspects of the work including fabric, colours, accessories, etc

Drawing
How to enhance designs skills, figure drawing, technical flat design and rendering illustrations inside the collection process.

Fabrics/colours
Research of fabrics and colours for the next time season for A/7 2006/07 in co-ordination with students individual collections.
The course will emphasize the colour, texture, pattern and design concept

Trends/Research
An introduction to the methodology necessary for the realisation of a mood board with particular attention to the research phase. Atmosphere, life style, fabrics, yarns, lines will be studied and analyzed following anthropological and sociological society changes.
The present course is combined with a 1-week course of Italian language starting on June the 19th and an intedisciplinary week of visits in the city of Milan and its surroundings sarting from June the 26th.
This 5-week course (3 weeks of design, 1 week of Italian and 1 week of interdisciplary activities) corresponds to 6 US transfer credits.
